if you don't switch suppliers when they try to charge these kind of prices then you are a mug and i think hurleys are taking advantage of some people here...

That's fair enough Rich.sadler2886 wrote:Mark@YorVend wrote:I think you have to look at the bigger picture when choosing stock, and accept that some things cost more than others. There's nothing worst in my opinion than seeing a tower full of cheap chewy sweets, with no chocolate or branded products.
There is a Perform machine in a pub near me that has 3 rows of tubz vending vending vending fizzy mix, three cola bottles, and three pencils, needless to say it looks crap, even when they bother putting anything in it!
I would rather make less money on more sales, and will put what sells in the machine, rather than what has a good margin. I would also rather pay the extra to Hurley's on their maestro's than have a odd looking machine, with two different brands of stock.
I think you have to balance out the branded lines with some cheaper lines to make a respectable overall margin, for example I put 3/4 lines expensive branded lines in the tower and then use 5/6 cheaper lines such as maom chews which are cheap but still branded. I also self pack Rolos which allows me to use this branded product for a lot cheaper than buying from suppliers. I only use 3 expensive products which are skittles, toblerone and Rolos.

I just thought that if more were sold, the price may be able to come down.
If that's not possible, I agree with your methods, which I adopt to some degree now.
Cheers

but they definitely are not minstrels and the tubz vending equivalent is probably a fiver a box cheaper depending on your prices so why not get them from tubz vending if you are worried about the price? the big advantage of not signing any contracts is you have the flexibility to get the cheapest stock from whoever you want.
hurleys will have to shift a lot more to get the stock cost down 20% and i doubt the problem is a lack of volume because all the funhouse towers i've seen have got 2 columns of them.

Re: Hurleys Maestros
I do agree it's a shame to have to pay as much for these as we did for the Minstrels, as these are nowhere near as nice as minstrels, and also don't have their brand recognition either.
I think it's worth remembering that tubz vending and Hurley's both have to make a profit, and this can be greatly affected by the deal they cut with their suppliers for the product, plus the costs associated with re-packing into pots.
It's all very well saying were being ripped off by them, but their price depends on the price of the product they source, plus pots/labour/utility costs/business rates. If one of them gets a slightly worse deal than the other on their stock, tubs, or even electricity supplier it can add a lot to their costs, and ultimately add to the cost of the price you pay.
We all have to option to pack our own stuff with stock from the local cash and carry, but when taking into account the endless hours of work (or having to pay the kids to do it), and risking being sued if you accidentally drop something in it, it's not worth the effort!
Plus they look better with a nice branded sticker on the pots!!
I'm sure if you asked Hurley's or tubz vending they would confirm the cost of the bulk Mintrels is more or less the same as the chocolate pebbles!

Re: Hurleys Maestros
If Hurleys could sell Maestros and still make a profit at £35 they would. Sometimes just selling a few more pots won't bring the price down. Let the suppliers issue the prices and we will make our judgements accordingly. Since I've pulled Minstrells I'v e been supprised on the vnumber of sites still lingering with poor sales.

I don't know who has said anything about being ripped off by them. I have not said that. My point was if everyone that bought Minstrels bought these, then Hurleys could get a better deal from their supplier. To be honest, I really think that they are a good product and my customers cant detect much of a difference. The only comment has been that the chocolate is darker than Minstrels.
