Condom Machine Business

Post by PGBrew »

I have been offered an opportunity to take over approx 250 condom machines. The machines are owned by a manufacturer/ distributor who supplies the refill product. I have a meeting with the operator next week. what sort of questions should I be asking? How much should I be paying for the business? What sort of turnover could I expect? Is it something worth persuing? The existing operator just wants me to offer for the goodwill of the business only?

Regards,

Pete

Hi Pete

Few things come to mind ...

Are the condom machines on a £1 vend and does the mechanism need updating? Are the upgrades available and what are the costs.

Are there contracts in place for the sites?

I have never operated condom machines but I do have customers who do and their feedback is that the business is not what it was and turnover is very low with many sites selling one or two per month.

The 250 sites could be very useful to you in your business to use as expansion and offer the site alternative vendors perhaps is they are in the areas that you operate already?

Hopefully others will be able to advise on price.

Regards,

Barbara

Thanks for your comments Barbara, Mechs do need upgrading getting costings on that and there are contracts in place. I don't need the extra sites as I grow by aquisition these days. low turnover would be ok but one or two per month would be too low and if others concur the project would be a non starter.

Cheers and thanks again,

Pete

Hi Pete

Has the seller shared with you turnover/averages? Of the ones I have spoken to, the really low turnover sites were in places like pubs. The takings were a little higher in hotels but nothing to shout or get excited about.

Hi barbara,

Turnover figures etc will be discussed at our meeting next week. Before then I would like to canvass views from the industry. That way I will be more able to tell the chaff from the wheat.

Pete

my thoughts pete, the condom business is worth nothing. However the sites, and the fact that your already in there, the potential upsell far outways the profit from the condom machines.

Cheers Matt,

Interesting comments Got enough of my own sites to upsell so won't proceed if the condom business has no value.

Cheers

Hi Pete
I concur with what Barbara and Matt have said.
I started out in condom vending in 1988 and its true there was good money to be made at that time.
A great deal has changed socially since then and condom machines in pubs need to be left for so long to make it worth while you run a high risk of the machine being taken down by the publican / builders etc because they think its been abandoned.

IMO i would leave well alone, Unless they are modern machines (like Autonumis) that can be reprogrammed for different products and prices.
Blue pills are good sellers and same size as Condom boxes, but you need to sell them at £4 a box.
if these machines have the twist and turn type mech that only work in a single coin, run away, Fast!!!
Cheers nigel
