New pound coins!

Post by Mark@YorVend »

Have you seen the new pound coins that are coming out in 2017?
They've decided to make them the same shape as a 20p, so it's going to cost an absolute fortune to change our coin mechs.
Got 3 years to save up!! :(

I'm guessing not only do we need to swap the coin mechs we have on our towers but also send out all the change givers back to get them reprogrammed again just like before when the 10p and 5p coins swapped over ?
That's a very big set back for a lot of small business .

I found this in an article in the telegraph online:

"A source said that the new coin, which will be roughly the same size as the current £1, will still fit in supermarket trolleys, parking meters and vending machines."

Fingers crossed!

Rockvend sells Beaver carriers for 8 quid plus vat, and I think it's a bit pricey, but this is all that we are going to pay, if we'll need to adjust the mechs. A tenner per machine. It may work anyway, without any alternation. We have to wait for the dimensions of the new coin.

Royal Mint will be approachable I'm sure nearer the time. If you contact them 6 months prior you may get all the dimensions so you can ask a local engineer to make a prototype. Use it to test across bulk toy & sweet/pringles towers. At least you will know if mechs need changing. There will be a grace period where old coins will still be accepted so hopefully all mechs will work with round & 12 sided pound coins.

i think this will take some serious forward planning. We wont need new mechs though just a new coin carrier plate in the mechs. Hopfully one plate with fit both clemport and chinese coin mechs.
