Anyone bought a website ?

Post by Snackspot »

My trip to Oz looks like it has bit the dust due a little bit of water that they have had this year! So on with my seed empire...

I have been using a specialist seed supplier for about 5 years who has packed it in since December 2010, due to a new job and a baby. He is based in Canada, but sells mainly to the USA and EU. I had been talking to him about buying his remaining stock when I thought"what about the website?" I asked him and he said that he wanted $5k plus $1k for stock(which I can sell for at least $10k on my own sites). The site turns over $25-30k a year with margins of 60% and has over 7500 hits a month mainly from google(no adwords!)

I seemed to have tied him down to a deal where I pay $1000 for stock in $200 installments for each 1/5 of his stock and when the first arrives I pay for the next etc, until I have all his stock. At this point I then pay $500 for the website, database, contacts etc.I will then manage (He will have admin rights to monitor sales) orders and take money, I will then give him $3500 when the site takes $5000 at which point he hands over full control and I can point to my servers. The money will be in my paypal account so he will have no access to cash unless I give him some!

I think its a good deal, with lowish risk!

Anyone have any ideas/experience on what I need to check when I take control? domain transfers etc?

cheers

Wil

I had a bit of a nightmare swapping a domain name that was registered by me on a USA registration site as your not covered by nominet and they (US HOST) didnt answer any messages.

In the end I managed to get the release code and then transfer across.

Speak to nominet and they will put you right, very helpful and free helpline.
